Patch 4.3.2 released today, launch your clients early [Updated patch notes]

Patch 4.3.2 has launched today on North American realms, and everything so far is going smoothly -- and it should go especially well once you"ve upgraded and get some optimization done.

But we have to put this in bold:

This mandatory optimization can take some time. Launch your game clients early.

Don"t expect to open up WoW at 7:55 p.m. tonight and be ready for the raid at 8. Right now, my optimization has been taking well over 30 minutes.

Update 8:15 p.m. EDT New patch notes released today, updated after the break.

World of Warcraft patch 4.3.2 64-bit client download and information [Updated x3]

As we posted earlier, Blizzard has released the information necessary to get the 64-bit client up and running with the live patch 4.3.2 servers.

Please remember that this 64-bit client is still in beta, even though you can play the live (non-PTR) game with it. This means that you might experience unexpected crashes and other bugs. Be sure that if you do experience them, you report them right away so Blizzard can fix everything up.

I"ve installed this live 64-bit client; however, there still seems to be a version validation error with the servers. This is probably a quick fix that Blizzard can take care of, and we"re hopeful that everything will be solved soon.

Download the Windows client here and the Mac client here. The full blue post after the break.

Update 3:10 p.m. EST Blizzard pulled the download information from its support forums and posted a message saying that final preparations were being made and the client would be up soon. We"re assuming this is due to the validation errors with the servers. We"ll update this post when we know more. The download links and everything still work, however.

Update 4:05 p.m. EST Blizzard posted an update this afternoon:

Omrakos (Support Fourms)
The 64 bit client for the live realms isn"t ready to be used yet. For now, set the game to use the 32 bit client. This is done in the Game Preferences in the Launcher under Options at the top left of the Launcher screen.

Update 6:20 p.m. EST The 64-bit client will not be usable today, due to unforseen issues. We"re leaving the original blue post with the download links up after the break.

Omrakos (Support Fourms)
Despite our best intentions and efforts, there are some unforseen issues preventing the 64 bit client from being made available at this time.

Reader UI of the Week: Healing with Stormstrong

Each week, WoW Insider and Mathew McCurley bring you a fresh look at reader-submitted UIs as well as Addon Spotlight, which spotlights the latest user interface addons. Have a screenshot of your own UI that you"d like to submit? Send your screenshots along with info on what mods you"re using to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. As interface concerns continue to move from function to form, player user interfaces continue to move toward simplicity and pared-down constructs. You wouldn"t think that players would want interfaces with fewer graphics and a separation from oddities by fixing interface problems themselves, what with the fixed user interfaces of so many games these days. I will never stop championing the UI as one of the prime factors that made WoW the juggernaut it is today.
To celebrate the freedom that we all share in this addon world, we hold up our community"s creations to the sky and ask the community to appraise them. Is this worthy, UI lords atop Lua Mountain, from where all addons come? The Addon Kingdom.
This week"s UI comes from resto shaman Stormstrong (love the name) who, like many of my readers, praises minimalism and wants to get his healing job done with as little in the way as possible. Good man, I"d say. Also, has anyone noticed the trend of fewer healing buttons lately? What changed? How are people healing with seemingly fewer buttons these days? Man, I really haven"t played my paladin healer in a while ...

Hit Caps and Other Stats

Got this comment the other day: … One thing that might be of help, especially to players like myself that play casually but still want to get good geared avatars would be a guide to the numbers and caps. Wowwiki has helped me a lot, but the notion of caps, how to know when they [...]

Patch 4.32 is Going Live Today

Patch 4.32 is mostly bug fixes and tweaks, but they did add a nice change in that you can now team with your Real ID friends (if you have any) for Raids (Raid Finder only) and BattleGrounds. This does not apply to Dragon Soul raids or, I assume, Rated Battlegrounds. I’m sure that I will [...]

64-bit client still in beta, more information coming soon

There"s some confusion out there with regards to the 64-bit client, and while there"s not an official blue post today about it, there is a fair amount of information from previous blue posts from which we can put together a pretty accurate picture.

If you don"t know what a 64-bit client is or have no idea in general what I"m talking about, Mat McCurley wrote a good piece on what this is all about earlier in the month.

Jurannok (Support Forums)
People with 64bit systems will be able to run the 32bit client perfectly fine.

The 64bit client is entirely optional. It"s also still going to be in beta after it"s released to the live realms with 4.3.2. We"ll still be working on it further after the patch.

Jurannok (Support Fourms)
After the patch there will be more information about how to install it [the 64 bit client] and set it up.

So the 64-bit client wasn"t contained in the patch you all just downloaded; it"s still in beta. The client that"s available to download from the PTR forums right now doesn"t work with the live and patched servers -- it throws the "Unable to validate game version" error. We"re unsure exactly if Blizzard will be releasing a beta 64-bit client to use on the live realms today, but we"ve reached out to ask and will update if and when we hear back.

Tuesday Morning Post: Third time"s the charm edition

Filed under: Realm Status, News items

For the past few weeks, Blizzard"s toyed with us just a bit. Monday night bought a posted announcement of extended downtime, only for the morning to feature naught but rolling restarts. As of this writing, we"re once again starting with a 3 a.m. to 11 a.m. PST downtime announcement. Will it stick this time? I suppose by the time you read this, we"ll know.

Still, it"s a win-win situation. If I"m right, I"m right. If Blizzard changes back to rolling restarts, we get to play the game again sooner. In the meantime, there"s still stuff to read while the game"s down. The biggest news we"ve gotten out of Blizzard thus far has been one of negatives: BlizzCon is gone, at least for this year. This means we"ll have to party even harder in 2013, but what do we do in the meantime? For now, I suggest we catch up on reading. We"ve kept busy even with the dearth of news, offering guides and opinions you"ll want to read. While you wait for the servers to come back up, why not read on? Our usual roundup of the best stuff from the past seven days awaits.

The WoW economy code of ethics

Every week, WoW Insider brings you Gold Capped, in which Fox Van Allen and Basil "Euripides" Berntsen aim to show you how to make money on the Auction House. Feed Fox"s ego by This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or tweeting him at @foxvanallen.

There"s nothing more American than the idea of making money off the labor of others. Wall Street was built on it. Presidential campaigns are built on it. Even World of Warcraft fortunes are built on it. If you want to be a member of the 1%, you have to do it off the labor of the 99%.

The whole process sounds a lot more unethical than it really is. After all, just about any sale of a physical good involves someone else"s labor. You may have put a lot of work into building that lemonade stand yourself, but did you work the fields to harvest the sugar cane? And while you may be the one selling that Darkmoon Card: Volcano trinket, were you the one who collected the thousands of herbs and Volatile Lifes? Or did you visit the Auction House and profit off a farmer"s efforts?

Profiting off of others is simply how money is made. But we have a social responsibility to make money the right way. Without an in-game legislature or an in-game court system, what rules and laws should we operate under? As the engines of the World of Warcraft economy, what are our ethical responsibilities? How do we make money without causing social harm?

I am a killer of guilds

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Guilds

I have a confession to make: I"m a guild killer.

I don"t do it deliberately, I swear. See, back in vanilla, my raid guild lost pretty much all of its officers to EverQuest II right around the time Ahn"Qiraj-40 was coming into play. So the officers who were left (and the new guild leader) decided I should also be an officer -- and I agreed, which was probably the worst decision I"ve made in my life. Two weeks later, the guild was belly up and I was off trying out a roleplaying server for the first time, since I now had loads of free time to play an alt.

I figured it was simply the lack of leadership experience that had ultimately killed the old guild. The officers who had been promoted weren"t really officer material, myself wholeheartedly included. After losing most of our officer corps, the wind had gone right out of the guild"s sails, so to speak.

But see ... the trait of guild killing followed me after that. I couldn"t help it. And I began to wonder if maybe I am just a terrible, terrible choice for an officer.

The Ironman Leveling Challenge

People are always complaining that WoW is too easy, with the gear, the leveling nerfs, etc. It used to take about 6 days to get to 60, if you were fast and efficient and knew your way around the place. Now it’s about the same to 85. These days we have Heirloom gear, Guild perks, [...]

Drama Mamas: How to find gaming buddies

Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Guilds, Drama Mamas

Drama Mamas Lisa Poisso and Robin Torres are experienced gamers and real-life mamas -- and just as we don"t want our precious babies to be the ones kicking and wailing on the floor of the checkout lane next to the candy, neither do we want you to become known as That Guy on your realm.

We"ve talked before about how to leave your guild, but what happens after that?
Hey Drama Mamas!

Today i write to you lovely ladies with a problem that I have been wrestling with for almost 4 years: finding someone to play World of Warcraft with. Here is the high and low of it, or rather the long and short:

Four or so years ago my brother starts playing a game that I considered to be a money sand trap: World of Warcraft, I cannot honestly say I was friendly to the franchise as at the time I was Neverwinter Night"s personal slave (still am sometimes) but to make a long story short (too late) I was persuaded to take a vacation to Azeroth and I have never left. I fell in love with the planet and its people and while my hearth stone will always be set to Neverwinter, I am really enjoying my time in Azeroth.
